Enhancement of Lithium in Red Clump Stars by Neutrino Magnetic Moments
نویسندگان
چکیده
A recent spectroscopic survey has shown that the lithium abundances in low-mass red-clump stars are higher than theoretical prediction. Motivated by their finding, we implemented effects of additional energy losses induced neutrino magnetic moments on stellar evolution models. It is found red giants increase because finite neutrinos enhance efficiency deep mixing and 7 Be conveyed from hydrogen burning shell to convective envelope. The results motivate further studies non-standard surface compositions stars.

Red Clump stars in the Boötes III stellar system
We report on the detection of a population of Red Clump (RC) stars probably associated with the recently discovered stellar system Boötes III. The RC is identified as a 3σ peak in the Luminosity Function (LF) of colour-selected stars extracted from the SDSS database. The peak is consistently detected in the g, r, i and z LFs at the expected luminosity of a typical RC at the distance of Boötes I...
متن کاملAsteroseismology of red-clump stars with CoRoTand Kepler
The availability of asteroseismic constraints for a large number of red giants with CoRoT and, in the near future with Kepler, paves the way for detailed studies of populations of galactic-disk red giants. We investigate which information on the observed population can be recovered by the distribution of the observed seismic constraints: the frequency of maximum power of solar-like oscillations...
متن کاملEnhancement of the Transition Magnetic Moments of a Neutrino by Degenerate Electrons
The one-loop induced magnetic dipole moments of a neutrino are examined in a background of degenerate electrons in the standard model. For the nonrelativistic neutrino, they are enhanced by a factor (8pF/3mν), where pF is the electron Fermi momentum and mν the neutrino mass. For the relativistic neutrino, they enhance the flavor-changing but helicity-conserving process because of the absence of...
متن کاملRed Clump Stars as a Tracer of Microlensing Optical Depth
Zaritsky and Lin have recently suggested that the color magnitude diagram of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) contains evidence of foreground red clump stars. They interpret this as evidence of tidal debris or a dwarf galaxy at a distance of ∼ 35 kpc which may be responsible for the large gravitational microlensing optical depth observed by the MACHO Collaboration. I derive a relationship betwe...
متن کاملA secondary clump of red giant stars: why and where
Based on the results of detailed population synthesis models, Girardi et al. (1998) recently claimed that the clump of red giants in the colour–magnitude diagram (CMD) of composite stellar populations should present an extension to lower luminosities, which goes down to about 0.4 mag below the main clump. This feature is made of stars just massive enough for having ignited helium in nondegenera...
